Broadcast journalism is something that can be quite terrifying for a group of print reporters. We are all so used to being away from the camera, or at least behind it, that it can cause some to become extremely uncomfortable- but what other choice do we have?
Print, unfortunately is on its way out, and newer forms of media such as multimedia pieces are what the industry is looking for. Therefore, the six print reporters in E-Journalism are going to all have to suck it up and do what we got to do in order to get us a job/ career at the end of school..
Today class was again, pretty fun, like yesterday. We incorporated the voice techniques for audio into the lesson that was brought forth today-broadcasting.
Andy gave each student a small sheet of paper that had a few paragraphs on it. He instructed us to memorize it; wait wait wait! Memorize something? We are print reporters- this is not what we have been trained to do. The class is divided in its strengths and weaknesses but memorizing deemed difficult for almost every one in the class room. Memorization is something can be absolutely frustrating. Trying to memorize this sheet of paper, sit in front of a camera and think about how your looking- your eyes, your body language, your smile, your hair is all very important for broadcast.
Then you also have to take in the voice techniques and put them all together. First try was not easy for anyone- the memorization made things a bit more difficult because how can you add the voice techniques if you keep stumbling over yourself cause you are not quite sure what your supposed to be saying.
Andy decided that he would make a cue card for the ones that were having difficulty with it. Having the cue card there allowed the students a safe guard if the content was forgotten. This allowed the other skills such as voice and broadcasting to come forth.
Andy was helpful and honest when it came to how he thought we were doing- but saying that we all were able to do this, just need to get a bit more comfortable lifted some spirits.
